Not any team can boast to have been born even before the country. But Bangladesh’s national football team did just that. It was born even before the country itself. The sports council of the government in exile, popularly known as the Mujibnagar Government, formed the Shadhin Bangla Football Team during the Liberation War in 1971.
Bangladesh’s national teams showcase our indelible personality and characteristics in the way they play, act and carry themselves. These traits will help the men’s and women’s teams build an affinity with the Bangladesh football community, districts and fan base.
The Bangladesh Football Federation looks to provide a clear player pathway through a national curriculum. The federation also looks to take footall to the next level and regularly compete at SAFF and AFC competitions following an overall international performance plan. Bangladesh will play a proactive brand of football, based on effective, positive and creative possession by innovative individuals. Defensively, teams will be disciplined, resilient and hard to beat. The playing style is underpinned by a strong individual and team mentality.
If the National Men’s and Women’s Teams are to be successful in SAFF and other regional competitions, we need to develop generations of technically gifted players. If Bangladesh players are skilful, physically proportioned, and tactically astute combined with a winning mentality, we will be a SAFF Championship contender. There is then a need to develop National Academies across all age groups and invest sensibly into the development and ethos.
