Mohammedan thrash Abahani 4-0 in Dhaka derby

Mohammedan Sporting Club thrashed their archrival Abahani Ltd Dhaka 4-0 in their BPL meeting at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday evening. It was a big shock defeat for Dhaka Abahani, who have been the defending champions of the country’s top football tournament. Also, the Sky-Blues have been on the title race for the BPL’s ongoing season chasing toppers Bashundhara Kings since the beginning of the league. However, Toklish, Emily made the Dhaka derby, which once was a mouthwatering clash for the country’s football lovers, a goal fest for their team cornering the flying Abahani, who have been on a great form in the local and international tournaments in the recent times. Mohammedan’s star forward Toklish Ahmed inaugurated the goal fest at the 17th minute of the game when he got the ball from midfield and took a direct shot from the edge of Abahani’s penalty box. At the second additional minute of the first half, the Black and Whites cheered once again when Toklish netted his second goal from a speedy and stunning counter attack. Hundreds of Abahani fans roaring and cheering in the gallery expected that the champions can make a good comeback to the match after the break. But in reality, they saw Mohammedan’s third goal from Soulemane Diabate as the Black and Whites made another counter attack. At the 65th minute of the play, Jahid Hasan Emily, who had been going through a goal drought for a long time, put the final nail on Abahani’s coffin with a fantastic header. After this match, the title race became tougher for Abahani though they are at the second position in the point table with 51 points from 21 matches. On the other hand, Mohammedan, who feared to be relegated from BPL, are now at the 9th place with 20 points having played one game less.
