AFC U19 Qualifiers: Bangladesh thrash Sri Lanka 4-0

Hisor, November 8: Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka 4-0 to register their second win in the AFC U19 Championship 2018 Qualifiers Group B at the Hisor Central Stadium on Wednesday.

With the win, Bangladesh finish the tournament with 7 points from 4 matches with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss.

In the 4 matches, Bangladesh scored 5 goals and conceded only 1. The Red and Greens also registered 3 clean sheets.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh went in front after 13 minutes through Bishwanath Ghosh against the Lankans.

Riyadul Hasan Rafi doubled their advantage with a 33rd minute strike.

Mahbubur Rahman Sufil’s double in the 38th and 46th minutes was too much for Sri Lanka to take as they could not find a way through Bangladesh in the second half.

Mahabub Hossain Roksy’s men created more chances in the second half but failed to add more goals to their name.

Bangladesh will not be able to take part in the final round of the tournament as second placed Tajikistan has a much superior goal difference of +11 (before their final match against Uzbekistan) to Bangladesh’s +4.

However, the Red and Greens displayed eye-catching football throughout the tournament and bow out with their head held high.

Team Manager Amirul Islam Babu said, “First of all, we would like to thank almighty Allah. Our players played very well. We expected to score more goals, but 4-0 is still a good score. I think our U19 football team will achieve more good results in the future.”

Satisfied with the performance of his players, Head Coach Mahbub Hossain Roksy said, “Our team played a very good match against Sri Lanka. Overall, our players played a nice tournament and gathered a lot of experience which will be very useful for the future. We could’ve scored more goals but I am satisfied with the way our boys played.”
