Bangladesh beat Maldives 1-0 in AFC Championship Qualifiers

Dushanbe, November 2: A last minute goal by Mahbubur Rahman has enabled the Bangladesh U-19 Football Team to take the top position in the five-team Group B of the AFC Under-19 Championship Qualifiers, as the red and greens beat Maldives 1-0 in their 2nd match at the Republican Central Stadium in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on Thursday.

The match almost ended with a draw, but forward Mahbubur put the ball behind the nets in the 90th minute, securing the win for team Bangladesh, who put up an offensive game against the opposition.

With the result, Bangladesh Youth team topped the list with unbeaten record securing four points from two matches and comfortably stayed in the title race of the Group B after making goalless draw with upper ranked hosts Tajikistan in the opening match on Tuesday.

Uzbekistan followed Bangladesh securing full three points from their only match till now on Thursday after crushing Sri Lanka by 10-0 goals in the same venue.

The group champion teams along with the five best runners-up of the 10 Asian groups will earn the rights to play in the final round of the tournament slated for Indonesia next year.

In the remaining Group B matches, Bangladesh will play Uzbekistan on November 6 and Sri Lanka on November 8, both at 3pm Bangladesh time at the Hisor Central Stadium in Tajikistan.
