U18 tournament in league format from next season

Dhaka: The ongoing WALTON U18 Football Tournament, currently being held in cup format, will be played in league format starting next season.

The decision was taken at the 10th general meeting of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Football Federation held at 2:00pm on Sunday.

The meeting was chaired by BFF President Kazi Md. Salahuddin.

Apart from the decision on next year’s competition, it was also decided in the meeting that the final match of the ongoing WALTON U18 Football Tournament 2018 will be held on 13 May 2018.

The ExCo members also agreed that from next season, the Pioneer Football league will be held with the participation of U15 football teams.

Some important and fundamental decisions were also taken at the meeting regarding country’s top tier professional football competition – the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

As much as 13 teams will be eligible to play in the upcoming season of BPL upon completing the conditions of club licensing regulations.

From next season, the BPL matches will be played in at least 5 different venues and at most 8 different ones. A single venue can be the home ground of no more than 2 teams.

Moreover, all clubs will be allowed to recruit a maximum of 4 foreign players, among whom 1 must be under the Asian quota.
