Veteran footballer Monowar Hossain no more

Dhaka, April 20: Monowar Hossain ‘Monu’ was a star of the 80s national and domestic football.

The speedy winger rocked the stadium whenever he stepped into the field with the national team or with Dhaka giants Mohammedan SC.

The decorated footballer breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at 12:00pm after losing a long battle with liver cirrhosis.

He was 58 at the time of his demise.

Monu has left behind his wife, two daughters, siblings and numerous well-wishers to mourn his death.

His Janaza (funeral) prayer was held after the Maghrib prayer.

BFF President Kazi Salahuddin, Senior Vice President Abdus Salam Murshedy, vice presidents, executive committee members, general secretaries and all employees of the federation have expressed their condolences over to Monowar Hossain’s family members and prayed for the eternal peace of his soul.
