Olympic qualifiers: India too hot to handle for BD girls

Yangon: Bangladesh lost their second consecutive game of Group C of Round 1 of the Asian qualifiers of Olympic 2020 women’s football discipline on Sunday afternoon. India were far more experienced than the Bengal girls and it showed on the pitch. Bangladesh went into the break 3-0 down. However, India continued to score goals in the second half and the match ended 7-1. Krishna Rani was the scorer of the only goal for Bangladesh which came in the 81st minute. The goal was nothing but a consolation for the Bengal girls. In a post match reaction, Bangladesh coach Golam Rabbani Choton said, “Amongst the disappointment, India demonstrated real maturity and international experience in their performance. Our team were overwhelmed by India’s physical capability and control of the game during those important moments.” “Our young players must learn to avoid unnecessary mistakes at this level. We seemed to perform fine until we conceded a penalty. A few minutes later, we conceded a second due to a misplaced pass when we had good possession. Ultimately, India took control of the game,” he added. However, Choton is seeing positives in these losses. “”This Olympic tournament in addition to the AFC U19 competition in Dushanbe is invaluable to our young players learning and development for the future.” “I urge all to be patient with our players. We will continue to work with them and make sure we make those important steps forward,” concluded Choton.
