Talents of Bengal in the land of Samba

Four Bangladeshi youngsters are now staying at Sociedade Esportiva do Gama, a football club based on Brazilian city Gama, for a month long training. Ministry of Youth and Sports sent the teenagers there for training them up with various aspects of advanced skills and expertise of modern football. The four young talents – defender Nazmul Hossain Akand, midfielders Omar Faruk Mithu, Md Latifur Rahman Nahid and forward Jogen Lakra left Dhaka for Brazil on June 26, Wednesday. These football gems were picked up through the BFF Development Cup and Bangabandhu Gold Cup U17 Football Tournament last year. Coach Abdur Razzaq and selection committee member Khandakar Raqibul Islam are accompanying the players in Brazil. The Brazil government was very eager to import some young talents from Bangladesh where a large number of football fan shout for the Latin American country during the international competitions including the FIFA World Cup. Therefore, this particular initiative was earlier taken by Brazilian ambassador to Bangladesh, Joao Tabajara de Oliveira Junior. Earlier, both the sides agreed that the players would be given a year-long training opportunity. But, according to FIFA’s regulations, U18 footballers are not allowed to go to other countries for long-term training programmes. However, the BFF is considering this programme an opening day for the future. This programme may ease the way to send more players from next year. On their arrival in Brazil, Bangladesh embassy officials along with the officials of the club received the mini football delegation. The footballers started their training with the club’s U20 team with some warm up tasks on Thursday. They will continue their month long training staying at a hotel which is 15 minutes away from the Gama stadium. Meanwhile, the club’s local coach Vílson Taddei has been well satisfied with the footballers’ skills and talent. Specially, he has been amazed at forward Jogen Lakra’s dribbling and control over the ball. However, the Brazilian coach observed that the teens need to work hard to raise their stamina level as their fitness is not up to the mark. We want to believe that one day, these youngsters will bring many glorious achievements for the country’s football with their lessons learnt in the land of Samba and Jogo Bonito, the land of Pele and Ronaldo.
